How Made to Order Personalization Actually Works
Share
The most common question about personalized gifts is some version of why it cannot arrive tomorrow. It is a fair question, and the answer explains most of what is different about buying one.
Nothing exists before you order it
A mass produced ornament sits on a shelf in a warehouse. When you buy it, someone picks it up and puts it in a box. That is why it can ship the same afternoon.
A personalized ornament does not exist when you order. There is a blank, a design file, and your details. The piece is made after the order, which is why production time is real rather than an excuse.
It is also why nothing is ever out of stock in the usual sense, and why the constraint on Christmas delivery is the calendar rather than inventory.
What happens between checkout and dispatch
- Your details are checked. Names, spellings, photo quality. This is where a low resolution photo or an obviously mistyped name gets flagged.
- The artwork is generated from your text and images and positioned on the piece.
- The piece is produced, printed, engraved or embroidered depending on the item.
- It is checked and packed. Personalized items cannot be swapped for another from the shelf, so this check matters more than for standard goods.
At Famtify that is 1 to 3 business days, then 7 to 12 business days for standard US delivery.
Why the live preview matters
The preview you see before paying is not decorative. It is the last point at which the crop, the name placement and the text size are easy to change.
Most disappointments are avoidable at that screen: a photo cropped tighter, a name shortened so it prints larger, a different design chosen because the one selected does not suit four faces. Ten seconds of attention there is worth more than any amount of correspondence afterwards.
What can still be changed after you pay
There is a window. Because production has not started immediately, changes to spelling, wording or the photo can be made within 12 hours of the order being placed. After that the piece is likely already in production and made specifically for you.
If you spot a mistake, contact support quickly rather than waiting to see what arrives. See our cancellation and modification policy.
What happens if something is wrong
If the piece arrives damaged, defective, or not matching the details you entered, it is replaced free or refunded in full. That is a manufacturing error and it is ours.
A name that was misspelled in the order itself is a different situation, because the item was made exactly as specified, which is why the 12 hour window exists. See the refund policy.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay for faster production?
Express shipping speeds the delivery leg, not the making. Production is a physical process with a floor. In December that distinction decides whether something arrives, so order early rather than relying on shipping upgrades.
Why do you need the original photo rather than a screenshot?
Because compression is irreversible. A screenshot of a photo that was already compressed by a messaging app has a fraction of the original data, and no amount of processing restores it.
Will the finished item look exactly like the preview?
Layout and crop will match. Colour shifts slightly because a backlit screen is brighter than a printed surface under a lamp, so physical pieces usually read a little warmer.
Can I order the same design for several people?
Yes, and each is made separately with its own details. Order them together so they are produced in the same run and arrive at the same time.
What is the real Christmas cutoff?
Work backwards: up to 3 business days production plus up to 12 business days delivery. That puts the safe date at roughly the first week of December, not the middle of the month.
