What Happens to Your Photos and Personal Details
Share
Ordering a personalized gift means uploading a photograph of your family, and often a child's name and a date, to a shop you may not have used before.
Most people do this without thinking about it, and mostly that is fine. It is still worth knowing what you are handing over and what to look for.
What a personalized order actually needs
Three things, and no more: the image itself, the text you want on the item, and the delivery address. That is enough to make and send the product.
Anything asking for meaningfully more than that for a physical gift is worth a second look.
What to check on any store before uploading
- Is there a privacy policy that mentions uploads specifically? A generic policy that never mentions customer images is a gap
- Does it say whether images are used in marketing? Some stores reserve the right to feature customer photos. That may be fine, but you should know
- Is checkout on a recognised platform? Payment details should never be handled by a bespoke form on a small shop
- Is there a real address and phone number? A shop with only a contact form is harder to hold accountable
Our details are in the privacy policy, and the business address and phone are in the footer of every page.
How we use what you send
Your image is used to produce your order. It is not sold, and it is not published in our marketing without asking you first. If we ever want to feature a customer photo, someone asks, and no is a complete answer with no effect on your order.
Names and dates on a keepsake are treated the same way as the photograph: they exist to make the item.
Two practical cautions
These apply regardless of which shop you use.
First, think about what a personalized item reveals publicly. A doormat or an outdoor sign naming small children is read by everyone who approaches the house. Surnames and years are safer than children's first names on anything visible from the street. See personalized doormats.
Second, if you are ordering a gift featuring someone else's child, ask their parent first. It is almost always welcome and occasionally very much not, and it is a short conversation either way.
Frequently asked questions
Do you keep my photo after the order?
Order records are retained for the period set out in the privacy policy, mainly so replacements and reorders are possible. You can ask for deletion.
Can I reorder the same item later?
Usually yes, which is one practical reason order details are kept. Families often want a second copy of a first Christmas ornament years later.
Is it safe to send photos of children?
For a physical gift from an established store, yes, with the caveat above about items displayed publicly. The greater risk is what the finished object shows to passers by, not the upload.
What if I upload the wrong photo?
Contact us within 12 hours of ordering and it can be changed before production starts. See the cancellation and modification policy.
Do you use AI on my photo?
Your photograph is positioned and prepared for print. It is not used to train anything, and the person in your photo does not appear anywhere except on your order.
